Roy Jones Jr., returns to the ring to fight Omar Sheika at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida March 21st, 2009. The card will feature UFC Hall of Famer and MMA legend Ken Shamrock. Ken Shamrock will fight MMA new comer and champion wrestler Bobby Lashley. This event will be promoted by Square Ring Promotions in association with Hirsch Borao Boxing and Ken Shamrock’s Wargods. The fight card will be broadcasted live on pay-per-view. This will mark the first time two champions (Ken Shamrock and Roy Jones Jr.) involved in two different sports (MMA and Boxing), at this level will fight on the same card. This fight promotion is expected to lead the way to future MMA and boxing fight promotions.Roy Jones Jr., an eight-time world boxing champion in four different weight classes with a record of 52 wins, 38 by way of knock-out and only 5 losses will headline the card. Named "Most Valuable Boxer" at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Jones is considered to be the best “pound for pound” boxing champion. Fighting and defeating the top names in boxing including heavyweight champion John Ruiz, Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Mike McCallum and Vigil Hill.
Omar Sheika is an accomplished fighter defeating one of Roy Jones Jr. former opponent Glen Johnson. Jones was unable to defeat Glen Johnson in Memphis, Tennessee on September 25, 2004. Jones lost by way of knockout in the 9th round. Sheika of Paterson, New Jersey hold a professional record of 27 wins, 18 by weigh of knock-out with 8 losses.
Ken Shamrock, the first heavyweight champion of MMA and first foreign champion in Japan will be the main event for the MMA portion of the card. Shamrock dominated the original UFC Superfight, Pancrase, and Pride Fighting Cahmpionships. Defeating MMA superstars like Dan Severn, Kimo Leopoldo, Masakatsu Funaki, Bas Rutten and drawing against Brazilian Champion Royce Gracie. Shamrock currently holds a record of 27 wins, 2 by weigh of knock out, 23 by submission.
Standing at 6’3”, Ashley will be one of many powerful opponents Shamrock has faced. Weighing in at 265-pounds, Ashley is all muscle, quick and explosive. This will be the second pro MMA fight for three-time NCAA Wrestling Champion and four-time All American Champion. Ashley comes with an extensive wrestling background. Lashley joined the U.S. Army and was a two-time Armed Forces Champion and 2002 Silver Medalist at the Military World Championships. Later becoming a WWE superstar of Wrestlemania 23.
