What has been going down in the world of Miguel Espino?
Miguel Espino
I haven’t fought in a few months because I have been doing this movie that Jon Bray helped me get in. it is about Micky Ward. I have been in the gym, I am not fat and out of shape, I am just not in boxing shape. I should be fighting at the end of August and I will be ready.
BH
I know you have a part in the movie, who do you play?
ME
Alfonzo Sanchez, he fought Micky Ward and was whipping on Ward until Ward stopped him with a body shot.
BH
If I am correct Mark Wahlberg is playing the part as Mickey Ward?
ME
That is correct, Christian Bale is in it as well as Amy Adams. It is a pretty nig cast and I am real excited.
BH
You have some big name actors in that movie, was you nervous going in there?
ME
At first, but Mark Wahlberg , man he is a real dude, he is just like us. He came up did his thing, very humble very giving, he is a real deal guy and a cool ass cat.
BH
What about Christian Bale, how was he?
ME
He was very cool and a very nice guy. When you role up on Mark he is like what’s up Miguel, Christian is like hello how are you doing, he is cool.
BH
We have some decent players in the 160-pound division, you are ranked #4 in the WBC, with all the names out there who do you want?
ME
I know that Pavlik is most likely moving up, I believe they are negotiating to fight Williams. There is so much money at super middleweight; it is like a free for all. So I think he is going to vacate so I say let the best man take it. That is what I want to do.
BH
Would you move up to 168-pound division?
ME
I wish I was a little taller; I wish I had a couple of more inches on me. I know I have the heart and desire and skill, but I am just a little too short. I am down, but I think I am too short, but maybe you never know, you know how this boxing goes.
BH
What does Miguel Espino mean to the middleweight division?
ME
I think I mean a lot, I am going to make history, I am going to be the first Mexican American to be middleweight champion of the world. I guess De La Hoya did that but you know how that went. He did it with Hopkins and went swimming on the canvas from the body shot. Like a real deal natural middleweight, that is me, it will be great man and great for the sport.
BH
Is there anything you would like to add to this interview or say in closing?
ME
Just keep watching, man you have been here with me for a few years interviewing me and now I am knocking on the door. I am just waiting for somebody to let me in.
I would like to thank John Bray for setting up this interview, and thanks goes out to Miguel Espino for his time and thoughts.
