Wahacanka Wilch (Good War Shield) is an inspiration to all youths. Wahacanka Wilch who is only 20 years old, has won 3 time national championships, competed 3 years in the National Golden Gloves coming in 4th, 8th, and 7th. Some of Wahacanka Wilch’s record wins include the win over super middleweight contender Aaron Quintana of Lincoln, Nebraska. Other record wins include the defeat against defending champion Mathew Karaga in Denver, CO and a win over undefeated Canadian national champion Ian Hudson.

CA: Do you feel your Native American heritage has had an impact and or helped your fighting career?
Wahacanka Wilch: Yes, being brought up as a Native American, when it becomes fight time that part takes over and it benefits me in the ring.
CA: You are only 20 years old and already have an amateur record of 78 wins (45 by KO) and only 6 losses. You have fought more fights than many pro boxers, what keeps you going and training for future fights?
Wahacanka Wilch: The love for the sport. I love boxing and will continue as long as my body can do it. I feel I have to be an example for the Native American youths and youths alike. Work hard and you will achieve.
CA: You are an inspiration to all youths. What message would you like to say to the youths that you have helped inspire?
Wahacanka Wilch: Keep your nose clean, work hard and you will achieve. Don’t lose focus, never let no one dictate your goals and future. Set your own goals and do your best to achieve them.
CA: Do you feel the fracture you suffered in the fight you had over a year ago has fully healed?
Wahacanka Wilch: Yes, it has completely healed and it is stronger than it previously was.
CA: Your father is a former super-heavyweight boxer who was a South Dakota State Boxing Champion in 1983 and 1988.. How did your father help you get to where you are today?
Wahacanka Wilch: My father played a big role. His advice and guidance as a parent has helped me make the right decisions and given me the motivation to continue. With out all the sacrifices my family have made, I would not be here today.
CA: What do you feel are your best fighting qualities?
Wahacanka Wilch: I believe my speed & power along with the ability to think in the ring. It is just like a chess match. There are so many obstacles in boxing, thinking is the best part about it.
CA: Who would you like to fight next and why?
Wahacanka Wilch: David Lopez my pro debut fight. From this day forward I am climbing the latter. I am not going to be pampered but a complete fighter in terms of fighting good competitors.
CA: Where do you see yourself in the next year?
Wahacanka Wilch: I don’t plan on moving up tomorrow.I want to be in the top 50. By staying humble and dedicated to the sport.
CA: Which fighters do you most admire and why?
Wahacanka Wilch: I have to say Bernard Hopkins, Robert Duran, and Floyd Mayweather
Bernard Hopkins has always been an idle. One of the greatest fighters of all time was Robert Duran and as for macho mentality it would be Floyd Mayweather.
CA: Out of all the trainers you have worked with during your career, who do you feel has had the biggest impact in your fighting career?
Wahacanka Wilch: My father and Quentin Blue Horse. Both give great advice and have taught me everything I know. I also feel that Jonathan Reid from The Contender has had a big impact on my fighting career.
CA: How prepared are you for your next fight?
Wahacanka Wilch: Oh, I am going to tell you. More prepared, keen and sharper than ever. When I smell blood in the ring, I am going to be a shark in the water !
CA: Besides boxing, what other sports and or hobbies are you interested in?
Wahacanka Wilch: Football, basketball, and soccer, football is an area where I had an aptitude, but once Isuffered a shoulder injury, it set me back.
CA: What famous quotes or personal quotes do you live and follow?
Wahacanka Wilch: There are a couple. One that is most important to me is: “It is not what you say you are but what you prove yourself to be” (it keeps me humble.)
CA: Whom would you like to thank?
Wahacanka Wilch: My whole family, they had an important part in my career, funding, moral support, and they are always there. The Lion's Den's Blue Horse , Jonathan Reid for working with me. These ae two amazing individual. And my Grandma Cecelia Kitto and Leroy Wilch.
