The quick and elusive Cornelius Lock of Detroit Michigan was unable to evade the 124 pound southwest superstar.
Antonio Escalante knew he would have to deal with the trickeration of fighting a southpaw (Lock) and knew he would have to deal with the Detroit fighter backing away, and then counter punching his aggressiveness.
Lock, which dropped to 18-4-1, landed a solid straight left hand early in Round 1, but Escalante simply took his time and pounced when the opportunity presented itself; which was often.
Lock had his moment in the round 2 by opening a cut over Escalante's left eye with a short right blow, just below the eyebrow. Fans had concerns and believed that Escalante’s injured eye may impact his ability to out maneuver Locks rapid speed and determination.
Unfortunately for Lock, Escalante managed to regain the lead on the score cards in round 3 by dropping him to the canvas with a ferocious shot to the midsection. Lock was quickly on his feet, but Escalante took advantage of the opportunity by unleashing a vicious combination which again put Lock staring at the ceiling.
Escalante continued to punish Lock, dropping him again in the 4th round and dominating the remainder of the bout which landed him his 21st victory and the possible opportunity to fight for a world championship title.
Judge Sam Garza scored the bout at 98-90 while judges Levi Martinez and Raul Valencia scored the bout at 100-88 improving Escalante’s record to 21-2, while showcasing his skills on ESPN Friday Night Fights.
