Coach McKay and the late Jake Martinez were the first recipients of 'Lifetime Achievement Awards' from The El Paso Golden Gloves Association. Overall, Coach McKay has been selected as El Paso Coach of the Year or Co-Coach of The year seven times. He was a very successful Ft. Bliss Falcons coach for half of the nineteen eighties.
McKay has written some twenty other publications including treasured Hall of Fame Booklets. Coach McKay and the late, Victor Villarreal, founded the El Paso Boxing/Martial Arts Hall of Fames in 1993. McKay was the first President 1993-1996 and again President in 2012. He has been inducted twice, in 1997 and again in 2013.
Though McKay has severe cancer, he has battled the disease for over 17 years. And as always, Coach McKay is proud to have served his country as a United States Marine. McKay was selected as a Top-Ten Senior at UTEP in 1971 and gained his Masters with a 4.0 GPA. He went to UTEP full time even though he was an El Paso Policeman back then. And yes, he still trains students as much as possible.
