TKO Promotions played to nearly a packed house in Commerce Casino's ballroom, Thursday night, March 25. In the main event, Demetrius Hopkins and Jesse Feliciano put on an entertaining Welterweight scrap, that saw Hopkins prevail by wide unanimous decision. Although Feliciano, of Las Vegas, NV, pressed the action, the telling blows were landed, and landed in great number, by Hopkins. Feliciano (15-9-3-9KO's), a former world title challenger, threw very wide, awkward punches, and was routinely beaten to the punch by Hopkins (29-1-1-11KO's). Although Feliciano has lost a couple of fights by early round stoppage, he showed impressive durability, but little else, as he failed to win a round on any scorecard... which handed out tallies of 100-90 (twice), and 100-91.
Super Middleweight Brothers Fedor Chudinov (4-0-3KO’s) and Dmitry Chudinov (4-0-2KO’s) both recevied victories, as Fedor stopped Jeremiah Jones, of Toledo, OH, in 2 rounds. Chudinov had too much strength for Jones (1-3-1-0KO's), and dropped him in the 1st round with a big right hand. Chudinov landed another right hand midway through the 2nd, dropping Jones again, and referee Jerry Cantu stopped the bout without a count, at 1:28.
Brother Dimitry had to go the full 4 in scoring a shutout decision (40-36 on all cards) over Albuquerque's Fernando Calleros. Calleros was outworked, yet showed toughness, in suffering his first defeat. He fell to (1-1-1)
Steve Fierro, of Carson City, NV stopped Mike Finney, of San Jacuinto, CA in the 2nd round of a scheduled 4-round Heavyweight prelim. Fierro (3-3-3-1KO) dropped Finney with a left hook in the 1st. Fierro followed up with a barrage early in the 2nd, and referee Raul Caiz Jr, stopped the fight. Finney dropped to (1-7-1 KO).
Ivan Redkach, of Los Angeles, by way of the Ukraine, overcame a game challenge from Ontario, Oregon's John Lopez. Lopez showed toughness, but was countered effectviely by the more skilled Redkach. Lopez was dropped in the first, but recovered well, un til he was hurt again in the thrid. redkach followed up effectively , bloodying and stagering opez, before the bout was stoopped. Redkach moves to (3-0-3KO's), Lopez drops to (0-2).
Mikael Zewski, of Trois-Rivieres, QC, Canada scored a 3rd round TKO over debuting Moses Alvizo, of Phoenix by way of Guadalajara, Mexico. Alvizo showed toughness, standing up to Zewski's hard counters, and throwing back... but was gradually given a beating by the patient prospect. The referee called a halt between the 3rd and fourth rounds. The Canadian Junior Middle improved to 2-0 (2 KO's).
In two successful debuts, local prospects thrilled the crowd. Flavio Rodriguez, looking pudgy at 147, stopped Toledo, OH's Najee Hayes in 3 rounds. hayes was dropped in the first and thrid roudns, and was fighting back when the bout was stopped very prematurely. In fact, Hayes, while clearly behind, actually landed the last punch of the fight. Hayes dropped to 0-3.
Flyweight Randy Caballero, of Coachella, also had a successful, and very short, debut. Gonzalo Nicholas, of Moreno Valley lasted only :49 as Caballero floored his opponent, and followed up with solid shots, that had Nicholas reeling, when the referee called a halt.
Super Middleweight J’Leon Love (3-0, 3 KO’s) took a while to get started, but quickly broke down Bryan Smith in the second round, with a sustained body attack0 . Love dropped Smith twice in the 2nd. The final time with a left hook up top. Referee Raul Caiz, Jr. stopped the bout at 2:26, making Toledo, OH 0-3 for the night as dropping Smith himself to (0-2) .
