Give the readers your thoughts on this weekends clash against Kelvin Davis?
Erick Vega
I think it is a great fight for me, I think it is a great way to expose my boxing potentials, which I really haven’t shown. Honestly I know there are a lot of questions concerning my boxing ability and skills. I am realist and I know I have a lot to prove and that is what I am going to do.
BH
Kelvin Davis is a former cruiserweight champion, a hard hitter and a pretty tough cat, what do you think about Davis?
EV
He is a puncher, to be honest he is not what he used to be, but he is a former world champ and is still a threat, I taker him very seriously. I am going to expose his weakness which is his ability to block punches, I am going to use my speed and my reach and stay on the outside and make him reach, and when he does I am going to catch him with explosive punches.
BH
You have a record of thirteen fights, who is taking on a guy with over thirty something fights, on paper it seems like a mismatch, do you feel that you have everything to gain and nothing to lose?
EV
No, oh no, I already have an ugly record, any more losses and I think my career is over before it really begins. I have a lot to prove and I have a lot to gain as well, I am going to do that. I am taking on a very experienced fighter and I want to show people that I do not back down. To this day I have never taken the easy road, I didn’t have a manager to guide me and to protect me, at this point I don’t need it, because these losses have made me a better fighter and I am going to prove it, and I am going to show that. I am going to show that I am legit and that I am a threat. Like I said I said, I have four losses, but in reality some where controversial, the last two weren’t, but I learned a lot from them and I am going to keep moving forward. I am a smart person, I just haven’t learned to be a smart fighter, and that is going to change, I am going to use my abilities and grow as a fighter.
BH
I wasn’t trying to be rude with that question.
EV
Oh no, it is what it is and I am going to prove the nay Sayers wrong, everybody wants to be undefeated, the reality of life is, we are all human, nobody is perfect and that is life. It’s all good, in my mind I am still going to be world champ and I am going to prove that, I don’t care what my record looks like. I haven’t been matched soft and I don’t want to be, I am ready to go.
BH
If you could send a message out to Kelvin Davis before the fight, what would it be?
EV
Good luck and I hope he packed a sleeping bag, (Laughs) I don’t know, I am not one to talk smack, but he needs something along the lines of a pillow and maybe a blanket because he is going to sleep.
BH
Anything in closing?
EV
Look out for me, I know my record is ugly but I will definitely be a force in the future, words are words but I am going to prove it with my fists..
