You know those wonderful new fixtures, with the cute little light bulbs that go in them? The ones that Edison spent 30 mil on and insisted we all have them to be politically conversationally correct? The bulbs do not screw in, they push into a slot, so they cannot be replaced with a regular bulb----well, guess what, in the apartment complex I live in, the bulbs have passed this mortal plain, after less than a year. And, guess what? You cannot replace them. Only one retail distributor has them, only they don't have them. They are out of stock and do not know when there will be more.
So now people have no lights. Most of these are in bathrooms, kitchens and hallways, and the bathroom ones seem to be the weakest link. Now people have to shower and go potty in the dark. Most of the bathrooms do not have windows, so it is dark in the daylight, also.
That is what I call being really energy efficient! Not only are you saving electricity, but time. How long are your showers and nature calls going to be if you are in the dark?
Great planning Edison, spend another 30 mil on kooky ideas!
And, have you noticed all the high roller celebs and business people on the band wagon of conservation, with their well lit big houses, heated swimming pools and lighted tennis courts, bowling alleys and the like? I am happy for them ,they have earned a good life style for themselves and more power to them., but please don't tell us regular everyday folk, how to conserve and sacrifice, okay? Most of the richer people, including Al Gore, have utility bills that would match a mortgage payment for most folk, so sacrifice does have different levels.
Conservation is good, we need to be more thrifty with our resources, but with common sense and plans that really work! If it ain't broke don't fix it. Don't throw away the wheel before you have something better that you know will work to the benefit of everyone.
Anybody out there listening?
