About 75% of NBA players have tattoos and the numbers keep growing and growing. With a population of about 450 players not to long ago tattoos in the NBA was considered bizarre, odd and even frowned upon.
That all changed when players like Allen Iverson , a fast scoring machine and his tattoo collection spreading from his chest, arms, shoulders and neck joined the NBA. Iverson has a large fan base, people look up to him and idolize him. It becomes a form of competition between him and other players. Who’s got the most art on their body. Other players like Shaquille O’Neal with his Superman tattoo has also helped set the trend among people ages 18-35. Ten years ago only 35% of NBA players had a tattoo. Today this number has doubled. If you don’t have a tattoo you’re a shrinking minority. Tattoo design vary from player to player.
Many NBA players prefer inspirational or Bible passages & images tattooed on their body. Some prefer tribute tattoos to honor their families. While others prefer menacing images like lions, skulls, & grim reapers. As the trend continues you will see more and more NBA players sporting their body art.
