Last night from Buffalo Bill’s Star Arena in Primm, NV, televised live on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, 154-pound contender Alfredo Angulo 16-1 (13) banged his way back into the win column by taking out Philly fighter Gabriel Rosado 12-4 (7) in just two rounds. Coming in the bout with his only loss, which was twelve round unanimous decision defeat by the hands of Kermit Cintron, Angulo aimed to make a strong statement, and did so by stopping Rosado, who all though has tasted defeat, has never been stopped in his time as a professional.
Rosado did not go down without a fight, using effective countering in the opening round, but was halted by Angulo’s aggression after hitting the deck three times in round two, giving Angulo the much needed win, and a chance to continue his winning ways as he braces for battle in November on the undercard of the Johnson vs. Dawson II light heavyweight clash.
In the co-main event, the undefeated super middleweight rising star Anthony Dirrell 18-0 (15) dogged an overmatched yet game Alfredo Contreras 10-6-1 (4) for seven rounds until the referee Robert Byrd mercifully called a halt to the bout. Dirrell, who was coming into the bouts with two first rounds knock out wins, and had only went six rounds once in his young career, stretched this bout out to seven earning the victory 2:32 of the seventh.
In the swing bout of the night of fight festivities, the unbeaten lightweight Sharif Bogere 12-0 (7) made easy work out of his opponent Rodolfo Armenta 7-2-1 (5) by dropping Armenta twice in the second round which promoted Armenta’s team to throw in the towel.
