The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s decision to eliminate TRT includes huge inconsistencies in NSAC actions in current testing protocols. NSAC's vote to eliminate Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) from combat sports is a game changer in the state of Nevada. Yet, the battle is not over for a drug-free sport, it is not even over for those who want a TRT-free sport.
It is not easy to catch users of of synthetic testosterone. When fighters know they will be tested they have ways around coming out positive. Especially if they know when they will be tested. NSAC tests only for testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio.
Fighters who use TRT the same week of testing will be caught. But if you want to catch the fighters who used TRT throughout training camp and slowly tapered off before their fight, a second carbon isotope ratio test will be required. NSAC does not generally administer this test.
The Nevada "Enhanced Drug Testing" done by NSAC does not detect if the testosterone in a fighter's body is synthetic or natural. Without this test the use of TRT for a fight in Nevada will not be an issue.
UFC president Dana White confirmed that the UFC is working on a deal which will require contracted UFC fighters to wear a uniform from a major apparel company. The uniform includes shorts, T-shirt and a hat. This would be something all fighters would have to wear. Even the top fighters of the UFC would be required to wear the uniform. The proposed UFC uniforms would consist of UFC-branded products and the brand of the apparel company. When asked about the possibility of uniforms White said “It's not as big as everybody makes it out to be”. White believes the UFC would be more in line professional sports leagues such as the NFL and NBA.

The “Greatest Show on Earth” for El Paso, Texas was Hilary and Tony Sandoval’s “Battlestar Karatica.” As teenagers, Hilary and Tony would enter the dynamic sport of kickboxing as promoters, managers, mentors, and even coaches. From those early beginnings in the 1970’s to a mature and older businessman who now owns AB Karate and a Blackbelt holder in Kempo Karate, it has been a sensational career for Hilary beginning with the brothers bringing El Paso, Texas its first world championship in any combat sport. That event unfolded at the El Paso Civic Center when their fighter, Clifton ‘Magic’ Thomas, won the PKA World Super Lightweight title over undefeated Gordon Franks on August 9th, 1980 by TKO in the 3rd round. That stunning victory was a shot heard round the martial arts world. Contenders and their managers figured that it must have been a fluke victory what with Cliff a 20 - 1 underdog and managed by inexperienced teenagers. Consequently, they lined up in droves to challenge the upstart kids. ‘Great’ thought Hilary, he had an ace in the hole to prepare Cliff for any and all challenges; one Demetrius Havanas.
Born in 1972, Ernie Reyes Jr. is an American actor, martial artist, action choreographer, director, producer, filmmaker, screenwriter, entrepreneur, singer and stunt performer. Known by millions of fans for his acting beginnings as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Ernie is and has been a superior martial artist. He took up the sport at the age of eight and even after being an established icon of the sport was challenged to prove his fighting skills in real combat. Not one to dodge his detractors, Ernie took up the gauntlet and won all three of his kickboxing Muay Tai bouts, including a 1998 Strikeforce Major Event in Milan, Italy. The fight was on ESPN and Ernie was outrageously outstanding as he romped to a third round KO of ISKA Champion, Anthony Elkaim. He certainly graded out A - plus for his short stint in the ‘Ring of Fire.’
Even with his demanding schedule in Hollywood and New York, Ernie has followed the rise of martial arts and was a fan of El Paso’s Hilary Sandoval and his stable of champions. On many an occasion, he has flown to the Sun City to witness Sandoval’s “Battlestar Karitica” promotions of world championship bouts. He was often a guest when world champions, Cliff’ ‘Magic’ Thomas, Demetrius Havanas, and Ishmael Robles took Center Ring. His friendship with Hilary developed early on and has endured even more mightily over the decades.
