Camp Pendleton MMA Event For The Troops

A Co-Promotion forged by a common goal and appreciation for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, will be holding their first joint venture together; and to launch this alliance where better than a place that exemplifies brotherhood, unity and strength than on a United States Marine Corp Base.

7th of May 2010 Camp Pendleton in Oceanside CA will play host to this PureCombat/HitMan Fights event. With a large amount of troops living on and around the base they will have the opportunity to attend this FREE to the troop’s event. It will not be open to the public but will be taped in Hi Def for later commercial consumption.   This benefit for the troops includes the Wounded Warriors Battalion West; a division of a Regiment known for their work with wounded soldiers and their families; helping them to cope, transition and reintegrate back into their lives after their experiences in battle.

And for this one night, we will entertain and wow the troops with a card meant to bring cheers of support for all the fighters that enter the cage that night. Many of the pros on this card have a military background and find that the most exciting thing about fighting on this card; is that it will be in front of family.

Starting with the Main Event…  PureCombat, Strikeforce, EliteXC and WEC veteran Anthony “The A train” Ruiz fighting out of AKA in Fresno CA and training with UFC great Josh Koshcheck; is known for his explosive hands at 215 lbs but is dropping to 185 to battle for the Middleweight Championship Belt. Anthony has fought and knocked out guys that weighed in at 265 and above. His cardio is legendary in the sport and you usually find that he out lasts his opponents of any size.

Ruiz’ opponent comes out of Empire Training Center in Corona and trains under Paul “Hitman” Herrera who was the man who trained Tito Ortiz and is responsible for bringing him into the UFC. Kenny “The Crusher” McCorkell will be taking on a formidable opponent in Anthony. McCorkell is on a 3 fight winning streak submitting all 3 opponents in the first round. If these fighters stay on their feet, this will be a war to remember. 5 rounds at 5 minutes is what we want to see out of this fight for the belt….rock ‘em sock ‘em robots all the way to the finish.

Kenneth "The Black Ninja" Alexander coming from Team Alpha Male and trains under Urijah Faber; Kenneth completed two tours Afghanistan and one in Iraq while serving as a sniper in the Marine Corp.  After Kenneth discharged from the Marine Corp he went onto become a Professional MMA Fighter. Kenneth has won and lost against Razor Rob McCullough and also came up against WEC veterans Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner. He’s a very quick handed striker and on the ground a very technical one that is full of surprises.

Kenneth’s opponent in this co-main event is Greg McIntyre, a Black Belt under Dean Lister and WEC Veteran. Greg has a unique background in that he was part of the TapouT Reality Show in 2008 where he was a featured fighter. Greg lives in San Diego and is also the first MMA fighter in the world to compete without a colon; it was removed as the result of an auto-immune disease. That infamous battle was fought in the PureCombat cage in Visalia CA February 29, 2008 to which Greg won this fight against Richard Chavez by unanimous decision. Check out this video……….

Former Marine Sgt. Vince Ortiz trains at the Body Shop with Antonio “Mandingo” McKee. His other teachers are Emanuel Newton and Brett Rogers so it’s a safe to say that his ground game is fierce. Vince served a tour in Iraq as a Demolition Specialist and was stationed at Pendleton for 2 years. After discharging, this adrenaline junkie put his energy into training and thus began his MMA career.

The opponent for Ortiz is Carlos Garces fighting out of Empire Training Center and with Paul “Hitman” Herrera as his trainer, Carlos will be able to defend and inflict his will upon this opponent with equal valor. Carlos comes with a real thirst for this win over Vince, who may have more experience, but Garces ambitions are as big as the heart he enters the cage with.

Mike Dizak fighting for Extreme Couture in Las Vegas trains under the most respected Shawn Tompkins and we’re told to not let his record fool you; Mike Dizak is one of the greatest wrestlers to ever come out of New York State. He has been singled out by Tompkins as his best trained athlete.

Joe Duarte is set to go to battle with Dizak and has a wrestling history of his own to brag about.  An all around athlete with many wrestling championships in his background, Joe was born in Guam and at 16 he began training in Brazilian Jui Jitsu and then transitioned into an MMA training camp. In 2002 he moved to Texas and joined the U.S. Army serving two tours of duty in Iraq from 2003 to 2005 where he distinguished himself as a competent combat leader despite the loss of his close friend, Dean Richardson. His friend was killed during a combat patrol in the heart of Iraq's infamous Sunni Triangle. He comes to the cage with a lot of heart and nothing to prove.

Also on the card is Ray “Ipswich Cobra” Steinbeiss fighting out of the Lion’s Den and training under Edwin Dewees started in Kenpo Karate and Ninjitsu and became State Champion in High School then entered the Marine Corp continuing to wrestle and train in Brazilian Jui Jitsu.  After his discharge from the Marine Corp he went on to fight in Bodog and the IFL making a name for himself as a well rounded dominating fighter.

Frank “The Tank” Lester fighting out of Team Quest in Las Vegas is trained by none other than Dan Henderson and Heath Simms. Frank was born in Germany on a U.S. Army base. His father a Colonel in the Airborne Rangers fostered Frank’s love of country. After his father nearly died Sept. 11 in the bombing of the Pentagon; Frank enlisted and at 19 yrs old he deployed to Iraq as an infantryman. After his discharge from the Army he trained in MMA and earned a spot on the Ultimate Fighter Realty Show TUF 9, United States vs United Kingdom.

For the Undercard we have Crystal Brolik Stokes, a female 170 lb MMA bad girl. Brolik lived on Camp Pendleton where she trained troops in the Mixed Martial Arts. She will be making her debut in the cage as a professional fighter. Also Steven Abas Olympic Silver Medalist against Brazilian Jui Jitsu fighter Danny Elias, Carlos Sapao Ban, Nathan Coy and more.
