Cage Kings Victory…was just that! Cage Side Report By: Benny Henderson Jr.

cage_kings_mmaThis past Friday night, Convicted Artist Magazine was cage side for one hell of a show, as Cage Kings presented the fight fans on hand at the Horseshoe River Dome, an eight card extravaganza billed as “Victory”.

The show opened up with the first two fights of the night ending in the opening round, as 170-pound debuter, Josh Black (1-0) submitted Roy Spoon (2-1) in seventy seconds via side choke, handing down Spoon his first loss. In dire need of a win, Cale Grady (2-2) got back to the .500 mark by choking out Team Taylor’s Wes Allen (0-1) in seventy-eight seconds.

In what was the fight of the night, wiry warrior Habib Barmada (2-0) stay undefeated by defeating a very tough Kierre Gooch (1-1) via unanimous decision.

At the bell, both fighters left no doubt that this bout was going to be something special. Habib was on Gooch like white on rice trying for an arm bar, and when he administered the rear naked choke, it appeard it was over for Gooch.

Wrong!

Gooch battled on in warrior as well as in entertaining fashion. Round two, Habib slammed and mounted Gooch, controlling the round again with his, what I call Mr. Stretch like style. Gooch did land some solid elbows and punches to the face of Habib throughout the duration of the bout, but when it was all said and done it went in the favor of Habib 30 to 27 across the board.

Shreveport’s very own Brandon Rondon (2-1) out weighed and out gunned a very game winless Trevor Robbins (0-3) in the opening round via TKO (punches). Note his ring walk, where Rondon paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson, lasted longer than the fight itself. No offence Brandon, but luckily you are a fighter, because your dancing career should be ended.

After the fight, fighter slash ring card guy (had to be there), Brad Mitchell who will be making his debut in the near future, called out Rondon with a quote that stunned this writer as well as the fans in saying, “Brandon, stop being like Michael Jackson and playing with the little boys and come fight a man!”

Brandon made his way to the ring and accpetted the challenge, and apparently these two will meet in the future for Cage Kings. Cannot wait, for now let the war of the words begin.

The fight fans was treated two an amateur bout that featured two tough lady’s of the cage that fought like men as Amber Stautzenberger (3-1) handed Kelly Irvine (2-1) her first loss via arm bar. At the end of the match, it was summed up well, these girls were not women when they battled in the cage, they were fighters!

Humberto Deleon (2-0) remained unbeaten by defeating Bobby Hill (0-3) via arm bar at just one second over a minute in the first round. This submission artist is someone the fight fans need to pay attention to.

The semi-main event was a hellish showdown as Chad Leonhart (4-1) earned himself a close yet unanimous decision over tough as nails Victor Rackliff (3-3). The three rounds were filled with elbows, punches, mounts and slams as Leonhart won the bout with the scores of 29-28, 29-, amd yes 29-28.

The main event featured the strong armed Chris Bell (9-1) who dominated a very game Chris Hawk (4-3) with brute strength and heavy hands.

The two waged war at the opening bell, with Bell, taking full control by getting Hawk on the canvas throwing punches at will. Hawk tried to force his will over Bell, but was countered by more punishing shots from Bell. All though Hawk deflected some of the punches, Bell got a side mount and rained down some vicious solid shots on the head of Hawk, prompting referee Jon Munz, and right fully so, to jump in and save Hawk from more punishment, giving Bell the TKO victory at 2:55.

I would like to thank Will Broyles of Cage Kings, as well as his entire staff who once again treated me to a great seat, and to a great show. Stay tuned to Convicted Artist for future Cage Kings and Ring Rulers events!
