Bellator 115 Results: Minakov Retains Title via Unanimous Decision

vitaly-minakov-cheick-kongo-resultsThe Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada was treated to a night at the fights as MMA promoter Bellator hosted a card for the live crowd and those watching on the Spike Television network.  The televised portion of the event featured four bouts, to include a heavyweight title prizefight highlighting two veterans of the sport.  The night held a lot of promise for everyone involved.

The main event of the evening pitted undefeated Bellator heavyweight champion Vitaly Minakov (13-0-0) taking on former UFC veteran Cheick Kongo (20-8-0).  The contest was scheduled for five rounds.  The opening stave saw the champion lose a point on the cards as Minakov landed two blows below the beltline.  This was a mere setback as the undefeated Russian was able to control the distance and established his dominance throughout the remainder of the fight.  After the final bell sounded, the judges scored it 38-36 in favor of Minakov.  It was a great win over an experienced foe in Kongo.

UNDERCARD RESULTS:
Also on the card was a middleweight contest showcasing Johnny Cisnero (8-2) locking horns with Mikkel Parlo (11-2).  The bout was scheduled for three rounds.  Cisneros was making his Bellator debut and both men are known for their powerful striking ability.   The majority of the match was spent on the ground with Parlo on top, looking for opportunities to end the fight.  The crowed was restless as Parlo was content with being in control via a full mount but would not take full advantage of his vantage point. After three rounds, the judges scored the bout 30-27, awarding Parol a unanimous decision victory.

Vulkan Oezdemir (10-0) and Kelly Anundson (6-2) met in a light heavyweight fight slated for three rounds.  Both combatants came out aggressive, each looking to impose his will on the other.  Anderson worked feverishly to take Oezdemir to the mat but had difficulty keeping him there.  Anundson kept the aggression going in the second and was able to get a submission victory.  It was a great Bellator debut win for the American.

Herman Terrado (11-3) challenged Justin Baesman (14-4) in a welterweight battle programmed for three rounds.  The bout ended in a majority draw as neither Terrado nor Baesman clearly established their dominance.  The fight had several moments of action, which the fans appreciated.
