Tapout MMA clothing line owner Charles Lewis Jr. died early Wednesday March 11th 2009 at 1:00 A.M in a horrible car accident in Newport Beach, California. Charles Lewis Jr. aka “Mask” was driving his red 2004 Modena Ferrari when he crashed into a light pole. The rare Ferrari was split in half upon impact. “Mask” died on the scene and a female passenger with him at the time was ejected from the car.
Charles Lewis Jr. “Mask” was allegedly racing an older model Porsche driven by Jeffrey David Kirby due to the skid marks which indicate that both cars were traveling at high speeds when his car hit the roadway, then the curb and eventually crashing into a light pole.
The car was ripped in half when the light pole fell and landed in the middle of the Ferrari. A female passenger was in the car at the time and was ejected from the crash. She was taken to Western Medical Center Santa Ana. The driver of the Porsche involved in the accident, Jeffrey David Kirby of Costa Mesa, California was arrested and is being held in jail for gross vehicular manslaughter. The accident took place southbound Jamboree Rd. between North Eastbluff Drive and Bison. Jeffrey David Kirby age 51 is currently being held by Newport Beach Police custody with a $1 million bail. Charles Lewis Jr. "Mask" played a large role in the promotion of MMA related events and will certainly be missed.
