The unbeaten rising heavyweight star David ‘Nino’ Rodriguez 28-0 (26) returns to the ring September 27th in Mexico City, MX, to take on the battle tested veteran Andy Sample 34-17-2 (22) in a heavyweight match-up for the vacant Mexico Heavyweight Title, as what is being a projected as a barn burner of a bout.
Rodriguez, who was raised in the border town of El Paso, TX, grew up big and strong, and all though having little to no amateur experience the 6’4” heavy hitting heavyweight has banged out a spotless record earning himself two minor titles and looks to garner gold as a world heavyweight champion in the years to come.
Nino made his professional debut December of 1998, stopping fellow Texan James Martin in the opening round, Rodriguez would go on to bang out four consecutive first round victories before battling to a third round victory over the twenty-five fight veteran Martin Lopez.
In the fall of 2003, a 12-0 (12) Rodriguez made short work out of the 8-1 ‘Concrete’ Tommy Connelly, knocking the Arizona native out in 2:27 in the first round earning David the vacant Texas State Heavyweight Title.
Just two fight later and Rodriguez earned himself another strap, which was the New Mexico State Heavyweight Title by laying down the law as well as the forty-six fight veteran Jeff Lally in the opening round.
In his nearly ten years in the bang for your buck business, Rodriguez has lain himself out a solid foundation of wins that stretch to twenty-eight, twenty-two have fallen in the first round, and only two of his victims has heard the closing bell.
His hit list includes wins over Cruz Quintana (1st R. TKO), Rick Dyer (2nd R. TKO), and in his last outing Rodriguez destroyed Josh Gutcher in 1:12 of the opening round taking the eighteen fight veteran out with a vicious body shot.
In his next outing Rodriguez will be taking on the battle tested Andy Sample , who has shared the ring with the likes Jameel McCline, Sultan Ibragimov and Brian Minto.
It is going to be an experience for the heavy handed Rodriguez, but it is a test for David is willing to take as he journey’s through the division in search of the top of the crop.
And if Rodriguez does what he has said in the past, then the fans should brace themselves as he strongly states, “the people have not seen the best of me yet!”
