Former Irish Light-Welterweight champion, Oisin Fagan, has been rewarded for his fantastic 'blood and guts' war, in his bid for the IBF International title in July, by getting a spot on the Bernard Dunne world title defence with Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym, from Thailand.
An opponent, is still to be confirmed for the Dubliner, but Fagan, the tough-as-nails, former schoolteacher, says he's not bothered about who they line him up with next. He remarked, "It's a well-known fact that I don't duck anyone. I've fought world champs to split decisions in their hometowns, so those things don't bother me, because I know that I can mix it with the best in the world. Furthermore, with what I lack in skills, is replaced ten-fold with a fearless Irish heart and to be honest, I enjoy big challenges against boxers I'm not supposed to beat."
"Of course though, it would be nice to come back with a handy win, after the 12-round title battle with Hyland, but if I'm offered an exciting fight, anything is possible. There are great fights on the domestic scene that are very tasty, but if I get a couple of straight-forward fights first, I'd be more than happy to have a go at Andy Murray for his European title. Also in my sights, is a possible match-up with Kevin O'Hara for an Irish title and just in case people have forgotten, I'd like everyone to know that I'd love a rematch with my pal and IBF International champ, Eddie Hyland."
"Hopefully, things will materialise with negotiations in that regard and I'll be soon matched with any of those lads. I respect them all and think they are great little boxers, but I think the Irish fans deserve the best fights out there and although I wouldn't consider myself as skilled as any of the aforementioned, everyone knows that I won't back down and will fight tooth and nail and give anyone a run for their money. This underdog will rise once again."
Fagan will take his place on the under-card, with appearances also coming from EBU champ, Andy Murray, IBF International champ, Patrick Hyland and Lurgan's, Stephen Haughian. This card is promoted by Brian Peters Promotions and with the talent already mentioned, it's lining up a cracking night, at the O2 Arena, Dublin on the 26th of September... literally.
The weigh-in takes place tomorrow in Jury's Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin at 3pm.
