September Predictions

floyd_mayweatherFloyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez

This one all depends on how much Floyd has slipped in two years off.  If he has lost a step at all in his speed, he has picked the wrong opponent, and will suffer an upset loss.  However, he is still young, and while the argument can be made than Juan Manuel has never been legitimately beaten, he does lose rounds.  He does go down.  I see both happening here.  Marquez's bravery and ability to adjust, along with Floyd's lack of killer instinct will prevent a knockout.  It will also likely win him a few rounds, but I see a repeat of Mayweather-Judah, minus the ghetto nonsense that follows Judah around... Mayweather by unanimous decision.

Vitali Klitschko vs. Chris Arreola

This one has all the makings of a brawl, but while I believe "The Nightmare" will give us many great memories in the ring when all is said and done, he is biting off a bit more than he can chew here.  While Arreola is typically a volume puncher, Klitschko has the style to stifle that offensive output, and force Arreola to prove just how durable he can be.  Something happens to opponents of the elder Klitschko; very early in a fight... they just stop trying to win.  I cannot recall the last time he lost a round (That's not true: Round 1 against Corrie Sanders), and he has only suffered two losses, both due to injuries in fights he was winning.  I think history will appreciate Klitschko, who is likely nearing retirement, only upon revisiting his accomplishments.  As for this fight, I see a pattern very similar to his last 4.  His opponent makes a worthy fight of it for a round or two, and then falls into a slow demolition.  Arreola's corner pulls the brave warrior out of the fray around round 9.

Chris John vs. Rocky Juarez II

Juarez fought the best fight he has fought in a long time in their first match, while John clearly did not.  And it still took home cooking in boxing's new corrupt host city, Houston, to prevent a John win.  I see nothing that will happen much different here, except Juarez will begin a more pronounced erosion of his skills.  John by wide unanimous decision.
