You had the fight this past weekend against Gbenga Oloukun, which went in Oloukun’s favor; give the readers on the outcome and everything about it.
Lamon Brewster
I felt like I won the fight, I won it convincingly, I did feel at times it was a little closer, he was an awkward fighter. Never the less I still think that I won, I don’t think that I left any doubt in the minds of the people, but because, even though he is from Nigeria, he lives in Germany, so I guess it is natural that he had a crow behind him so that may have influenced the judges. But I just want people to go on You Tube and watch the fight man, the dude did not do anything, I pressed the fight, threw way better punches than him and he really did not hit me with anything other than a jab in trying to run from me. I am a fair guy, if the guy beat me I would say that he beat me, but this guy did not beat me, and to save my life, why they gave him the fight, I do not understand. That is what I feel in my heart and I would like people to go to the site and to see the fight for themselves, and you are welcome to your comments. I can take criticism, and I know when I am right, and I am not a cheater or a dirty person, I know I won that fight and I do not know what to do, but maybe that is the cost of me not gong in there and knocking the guy out. I did not do that and that’s what I do, so maybe I am being punished for that.
BH
Where do you go from here in your career?
LB
Honestly I don’t know man, there has been some word the promoters are talking about dropping me, and I cannot see why they would want to drop me because I clearly won the fight. I cannot answer that, but I do not know where I go from here. I just want the people to look at this fight and tell me their opinion, I thought I looked pretty good, I did some good things. Of course it was not perfect, I have been off and I am trying to get the ring rust off of me. That was what I was trying to do, get the rust off of me and get back to the top, which I feel I have been doing. I am asking for the support of my fans, that is what I am asking for and looking for, to support me, maybe send some emails to the promoter, or whoever to try to keep it going. I am out there giving it my all, I try to put on as good show for everybody, I am trying to be a fair boxer and a role model for this sport and I think it is only fair that I get my just do, and I asking for that from the fans, I have given them great fight throughout the years, so now I am asking them to step up and go to battle for me if at all possible.
BH
Let’s say you are not dropped from your promoter will you go back to Germany and fight?
LB
I have to go where my promoter wants me to fight.
BH
Would you feel comfortable in doing so?
LB
Yes I would because at this point I can assure whoever I fight now will get knocked out; I am not going in there anymore and try to win the decision. I have gotten so much better and that is what I am wanting people to see, that is why I want people to watch the fight, so they can see how good my defense has gotten and see the skills I am now bringing into the game. I thought that would be enough for me to win, and if the knock out came then it would, then opposed to me going in there and making the knock out happen. But I have to go out there and be relentless, go and live up to my name, and that is what I am going to do, especially if I fight overseas, because I understand now that they still see me as another American, and that was how I was treated basically. It was not fair, I won that fight and I know I won that fight.
BH
Let’s say you are dropped by your promoter, what does Lamon Brewster do then?
LB
If I am dropped my promoter over there, I hope that a promoter from America will be interested in signing me. I went over there and signed with them first because they offered me the most money and I am trying to take care of my family. I t was not a thing that I was turning my back on my country, I have to look out to my family. I have kids and a wife to take care of. I have to make the best decisions financially for my family and that was what I did. If they don’t want to treat me fair then I will come back home.
BH
Would you sign with just any promoter?
LB
I want to be with somebody who can get me to the title, get me back to the throne. I am not asking them to fight for me, I am not looking for handouts, all I am asking is to give me chance to get in the ring and show that I am the best fighter in the world, that is what I am asking for.
BH
How long do you think it will be until you get back in the ring?
LB
I am trying to get a rematch against Oloukun in the next two months because I am going to knock him out, and I never say that but I am telling you know I am going to knock him out.
BH
Would you fight him again in Germany?
LB
Yes, basically I will fight him in his backyard.
BH
So you are saying that the fight world has not seen the last of Lamon Brewster?
LB
No, you definitely have not see the last of Lamon Brewster, I don’t feel like people should write me off because of a bad decision, instead I am asking for people to get behind me and to support me.
BH
If you could send message out to Gbenga Oloukun, what would it be?
LB
He knows who won that fight, he knows that he got a gift, Christmas came early for him, but you can run but you can’t hide.
BH
In closing of this of interview what would you like to say to the fans and fight world concerning Lamon Brewster?
LB
This right here I look at it as a minor set back, I am asking the people to watch the tape so that they will not get influenced by what they read, draw your own opinions of me. If you believe that I won this fight then make some noise, drop some emails to the boxing organization, because I have spent my life fighting and dedicated my life to boxing, I have dedicated my life to try to get the kids off the street, and I do not feel that this is fair to me. We need to make this sport cleaner because this is not fair. I am trying to do the right thing and I am asking for the people’s support.
I will not be going into the ring anymore looking for decisions, because I understand now, that you wanted knock outs, so that is what you are going to get. It is very unfortunate where I fight my heart out and am not award the fight.
