When heavyweight contender Danny “Danny Boy” Batchelder (25-6-1, 10 KO’s) steps back into the ring tonight against perennial heavyweight contender Lance “Mount” Whitaker (32-5-1, 27 KO’s) in Redondo Beach California, he intends to chop down the big man, who has a 7 inch height advantage over him.
Batchelder stated “I will outwork him, especially when I get inside; I’ll make sure to keep my work rate up, higher than his. I’ve always been good against tall guys anyway.” Batchelder stated that he knows Whitaker from previous fights; watching tape on him and sparring fighters similar to Whitakers style. Batchelder also said that beating Whitaker tonight will help bring him back into the heavyweight title picture “Lance has been in the ring at the top level, and I am going in the ring against a guy who has again, been to the top, a place that I want to be at, and will be after I beat Lance!”
Batchelder, has been in against a who’s who of heavyweights to include close decision losses to James Toney, Brain Minto and Matt Godfrey, is returning to the ring for the first time since being stopped in the fifth round against former WBO world heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster in August 2008. Batchelder had a couple of fights scheduled; one against Otis Tisdale that the card was cancelled and one against prospect Bowie Tupou that was canceled due to an injury during Batchelder’s training camp.
