Painter of Light artist Thomas Kinkade died today. April 6th, 2012 marks the day that one of the most popular artists in America passed away in his Los Gatos, California home. Thomas Kinkade was only fifty four years old when he died. Kinkade's sudden death appeared to be from natural causes according to family members.
Kinkade's talents also included writing and he enjoyed teaching other artists his techniques through his books. He was the author of "Masterworks of Light" and "The Artist's Guide to Sketching.
Kinkade described himself as "painter of light" because of his talent for recreating life like paintings of lighthouses, colorful gardens, natural scenes, seascapes, classic Americana and cottages. It is estimated that original and copies of his paintings are seen in over 10 million homes.
"My mission as an artist is to capture those special moments in life adorned with beauty and light," said Kinkade. "I work to create images that project a serene simplicity that can be appreciated and enjoyed by everyone. That's what I mean by sharing the light."
