For years, CAPSOne used skateboarding and music (having a band) to release his creative energy but he realized that his natural talent for art was in need of consideration.
Having the skill for traditional graffiti, CAPSOne decided to take graffiti to a whole new level by adding 3-D style animation.
Often seen as unconventional, 3D graffiti has taken a quantum leap into the world of art. Blending graffiti style art with 3-D dimensions, CAPSOne capped this niche market of new life. In a recent interview with CAPSOne, this is what he had to say.
C.A: Hello. We find your art fascinating. Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you're from?
CAPS0ne: Born and Raised in Southern California, and have been lucky enough to see 16 other states and always make it back. I'm an old-fashioned kind of guy that just so happens to find Graffiti and 3D Art a perfect combination to mix together. I've always been a habitual line-stepper-over-er, so with something so Taboo like how Graffiti was when I was younger, and with Digital Art being more accepted and polished up, it was actually hard not to smash the two together and play with the result. It is safe to say that I am a product of my environment, and experiences. All in all I'm thankful for everything that helps me be myself.
C.A: Your unique style of art appears to have a blend of traditional urban graffiti and more modern digital design. How long have you been doing this and what inspired you to come up with this concept?
CAPS0ne: I know I'm close to 10 years. And if I think back far enough, it started as a half-joking dare between me and some of my Tattoo artist friends; it then became a personal challenge. The object was to be able to integrate a dynamic feature into Graffiti from the styles of 3D, abstract, and modern/contemporary. It evolved and continues to progress. I like how the techniques of Digital Art looks when it recreated by hand, its not always easy but it is definitely once of my favorite types of art.
C.A: What kind of tools and art media do you use to create your work?
CAPS0ne: 2 Things, Pen & Pad.
C.A: Who are some of your favorite artists, and what have you learned from them?
CAPS0ne:M.C.Escher is the artist of all time. He did it all and he did it very well. I also dig a few Big Time and Underground Graffiti Artists, but Escher wins no contest. I think the Art Industry as a whole has taught me a lot, and something new everyday. Looking at the Progression that the industry has made, I know that constantly creating, and pushing to break the mold is most important.
C.A: Most artists live by a certain philosophy. Ours is "obsession is the offspring of perfection". What is yours?
CAPS0ne: I tend to live by the quote “Vini Vidi Vici" besides the literal translation, to me it means let boundaries become goals. Finding new inspiration everyday fuels my drive to defy all standards.
C.A: Apart from art, do you have any other talents?
CAPS0ne: I'd like to say I'm a pretty decent musician, but I know a few people that would love to disagree with me. Art helps me stay creative in all aspects, whether it's working on my El Camino, hanging with my Car Club, (ChevyHolics) Designing Tattoos, or cooking up an adventure in the kitchen, it helps me to stay sharp and open for anything.
C.A: Thank you for this interview. Is there anything else you'd like to share with inspired artists or our viewers? Any words of encouragement or advice?
CAPS0ne: Enjoy the Artwork, and always embrace what defines you.
