WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE!
Nasty huh?!Yet, as I said, after reflecting upon it, I realize why it was displayed and what its purpose is. In the old days it spoke of our incivility and racial and gender differences; Today: it is meant as a protection against business, property, and individual liberty. If a customer can refuse to do business with someone, why can a vendor not have the same choices, after all it is the vendor's investment and goods that are at stake.
Just because someone has money does not mean you want to do business with them, have them as a customer If someone comes in and disrupts your business interferes with you or other clients, or lets their
children run wild and destroy your property and goods, there is very little you can do to protect yourself, without getting sued slandered, or put out of business. The onus is on you to prove your right to business liberty, and that a customer is in the wrong.
Shop owners have been put out of business for asking careless parents to remove their destructive children from the premises. Restaurants have been closed for refusing to serve overly drunken, or foul mouthed people, who are disturbing other customers.
The worst case was a photographer who politely declined to do a photo shoot on moral and religious grounds, and recommended other photographers to the prospects. She executed her right to independent thought and business practice in a kind, courteous way and offered alternatives.-she was arrested,? charged with a hate crime, jailed, lost her business license, and was fined $6000.00. Instead of finding a friendly photographer, the prospects filed hate crime charges against her and her husband! Rather extreme don't you think?
This is happening everyday all over the country, little and big businesses getting hurt just because someone doesn't like them or disagrees with them. If you are an exclusive provider of a product or service, you would have to bare the consequences, and not be able to refuse anyone, that is a different scenario. But when there are many choices, then there should be no problem refusing to buy or to sell at your own discretion.
If it is racial or gender based. FOUL PLAY---but morally and ethically based reasons should be applauded and upheld, that is what made this country great and gave us such diversity!? That what made our Industrial Revolution work for all.
We are a multi faceted society, no one is alone in their choices, we can always find people who are in step with us so why bother with those who are not, they have their base of people also, so why make
life terrible for someone if they do not agree with you?
